Below Ground Rainwater Harvesting

Below ground rainwater harvesting systems have the potential to service both non-potable household and garden applications. They collect rainwater from roof guttering, pass it through a filter to remove leaves and debris before storing it in an underground water tank. A submersible pump with suction filter then distributes the water to either an elevated header tank (for a gravity fed water supply) or directly to the serviced appliance/outdoor tap.

Examples of the appliances and applications that can be fed by filtered rainwater from these systems are:

Flushing WCs
Domestic laundry
Washing vehicles
Watering the garden
