Septic Tanks

Septic tanks are the go-to standard for off-mains domestic sewage disposal, for situations where access to mains sewer is not possible or practical. Here at JDP we have a wide range of septic tanks for sale that are suitable in a range of different situations. Our small 2,400 litre domestic tanks are suitable for up to 4 people, while our largest 79,000 litre tank can handle up to 513 people in a commercial setting. Unlike Sewage Treatment Plants, effluent from these sewage tanks can't be discharged into a watercourse and so a drainage field with orange perforated sewer pipe is needed.

You'll need planning permission from your local authority, and in most cases regional environment agency permission, to install a new septic tank. Replacement tanks don't require permission.

Remember to check Building Regulations for information on where you can and cannot install your tank. Typically, they must be sited 7m away from a dwelling and 10m away from a watercourse, and 50m away from a private water supply.

Shallow dig or horizontal tanks, also known as low-profile tanks, can be used where site conditions have hard rock or water table issues as they require lesser depth excavations.
