This Flexseal Adaptor Coupling, also known as a reducer coupling, is designed with a stepped moulded sleeve that allows it to connect unadopted drainage pipes together that have different outside diameters – connecting larger pipes to smaller pipes and vice versa. Each end has a stainless-steel clamping band used to create a strong seal between the pipe and the coupler.

One end of this drainage adaptor can be connected to a pipe with an outside diameter of between 170mm and 192mm, while the other end can be connected to a pipe with a reduced outside diameter of between 110mm and 122mm. Its robust design allows it to connect pipes of different material types too, such as plastic, concrete and clay, making it suitable for use with both traditional and modern pipe systems.

Important Note: This adaptor coupling is not suitable for use with ribbed pipe.

Manufacturer’s Advice: In October 2011, the ownership and responsibility for private sewers and lateral drains in England and Wales was transferred from the homeowner to the Water Company. Previously, any coupling could be used to make a repair under the building regulations but now, following the transfer of responsibility, repairs have to comply with WIS 4-41-01.

Under these regulations, Adaptor Couplings are prohibited for use on adopted drainage systems. SC (Straight Connection) couplings that are shear banded should be used instead, to ensure connections are protected under earth loads. If connections need to be made to pipes with different diameters, combine a Shear Banded Coupling with a Flexseal Bush or Multibush.
